Build a Partnership

Many marriages end because the couple concludes that they have irreconcilable differences. The irony in this is that the very foundation of marriage is built on an ‘irreconcilable’ difference; one party is male and the other is female, and irrespective of the fact that modern culture claims otherwise, it is a fixed unchangeable reality.

Knowing then that the fundamental basis for marriage in itself is a truly irreconcilable difference, couples can gain some confidence that all other differences of perspective or attitudes can be managed in marriage.

When God established the first marriage, His vision was that two people from different backgrounds (and perspectives on different things) would come together (become one) to build something else entirely; so there was always an acknowledgment of difference and a need to “become” one.

A couple can then acknowledge their unique perspectives about money, but to overcome conflict about it, they must build a true partnership, for two are indeed better than one because they get a better reward for their labour. (Eccl 4:9)
