Leverage (2 Kings 4:3)

Everything we need to be financially free is closer to us than we can imagine. The widow was asked to “go, borrow vessels from all your neighbours…”. We all must learn to use all resources provided to us by God to our advantage – that is leverage! The greatest leverage freely given to you is your spouse! Seek each other’s opinion before you venture into any business. Don’t forget, God sees you as one.

Another important resource Christian couples should leverage is cordial relationship with other family friends. Your financial breakthrough could just be a relationship away from you. Christians couples need to maintain peaceful relationship with their neighbours and everyone. Business ideas could flow through referrals and from the experiences of others around us.

It is equally important to note that the woman was asked to borrow. Great businesses all over the world are not built entirely on owners’ equity. Collaboration and partnership are ways to raise capital for a sustainable business. Do you have ideas of what you need to do to be financially free and you do not have the required capital? Think of borrowing other peoples’ ideas, expertise, funds etc. Enlarge your heart and start thinking of what you can do as a couple to secure the financial freedom of your family and leverage every resource God has graciously provided.

Note that this woman did not borrow for ostentation. She did not borrow to consume her tomorrow today. She borrowed based on divine instruction and to secure her future (children). The future of our families should be a primary consideration when we want to make investment decisions.

The writer, Ayorinde Banjoko, is a child of God, married to Mojisola and blessed with children. He is an accountant by profession.
