Agree on a Plan

Prayer done correctly is not a monologue. If we take our questions and struggles about financial decisions to God, He will respond with wisdom and directions for what we must do. It is this wisdom and direction that we must put into a plan for how we go about our finances as a family.

Planning and budgeting can be a really hard thing to do as a couple because it exposes our conflicting perspectives and demands that we build a partnership to align and prioritize our goals; it often pushes us apart and sometimes forces us to turn to God. But as hard as planning and budgeting can be, lack of planning results in an incomparably harder outcome.

If you aim to build a tower, Jesus says the wise thing to do is to first, sit down and evaluate the task, and plan for it, so you don’t start and find yourself unable to finish it. To build a financially resilient and harmonious marriage, every Christian couple should jointly plan and steward the resources that God brings under their control.
